Winds of Change

A prelude

Moira sat huddled, in a dark corner of the Clan Hall, arms wrapped tightly about her legs, head pressed to her knees. Her head ached, the pain a thankful substitute from the anguish that had nearly torn her heart. Thankfully, now, all was quiet, yet still her ears rung with the echoes of the harsh, angry words between kin. A misunderstanding really, totally gone to unreason and animosity. An unspoken precept, that which prohibited one of the Clan from taken the life of another human had been violated. Not out of purpose or anger, but of simple unawareness. "How could they know? How could anyone?" Again tears welled forth, and Moira pulled her knees tighter to her forehead as if the pressure could stay the flood.

It was not in the Deed…dear gods…How could she have missed something so important? And to make matters worse, how could she, how could any Elder have left this unspoken? The hunt in northern Osteth; other failures, her own foolishness…all had impacted the Clan, but this…this had nearly sundered the Clan. It was oh so apparent now…she had no business being in the Circle. A lesser in skill, age, and now obviously in wisdom…there was but one remedy…

Moira made her way to a small room she kept as quarters. The Hall was deserted at this time of the night so few, if any noted her passing. She owned little, so packing belongings took limited time. With one last look around, and tearing eyes, she turned and departed, the letters would need wait ‘till she had found her next shelter.
