The
Brell Clan Guidelines
A guide to align action with principle
July 1st.. 2000
A. Everyday Life
- Allways abide by the CoC (Code of Conduct) as published on the Zone web-pages
- As soon as you have declared your fealty, be sure to send a mail to Brell to be added to the Clan mailing list - or
fill out this form. This is the primary means of offline
communication.
- When chatting to your Patron or Monarch please make life easier for him by using
the direct @tell command instead of the "chat to ..." functions (@p or @m). He
or she cannot use @reply to talk back to you, and has to type out your entire name.
- Be smart. Use fellow Clan Members to help you in muling your assets, to prevent
someone from stealing you most priced possesions.
B. Aiding
- If someone asks your help in the attempt to recover, Clan Members are bound by
our founding principles to offer assistance. Although this assistance can take many forms,
there are also circumstances, where it may not be possible or wise to offer such
assitance.
- A certain proximity to the place of mishap must be present, for one to be
bound by our charter, to aid a fellow traveller in mishap. Noone can be expected to travel
from the South Direlands to aid in recovery in North Osteth. However a few minutes running
and a couple of portal-jumps is not sufficient cause to abstain from helping.
- If you are travelling or exploring with a fellowship, you will not be expected to
break that fellowship to aid a fallen traveller, you should however (if curcumstances
allow it) suggest for your party to all assist in the recovery. Some of the best
adventures in Dereth often start by taking such mishaps as opportunities to seek and
explore.
- If you are about to retire from Dereth, do explain this to you fellow asking your
aid, and try to reach someone that can act on your behalf!
- Conscider if your assistance could be offered by replacing the lost items.
- From time to time we do ourselves die during our travels in this dangerous Land
of Dereth. When this happens and you need assistance, do not be afraid to ask of it, but
be in conscideration of the people you ask. First seek your patron, since he or she might
be able to assist or call upon someone else to aid you in recovery of you possesions. If
he or she may not be Online, seek aid with your friends (allways keep a friends-list so
you can quickly check who is Online) or your Monarch.
- Don't charge back only to die a second time in an attempt to recover. What was
able to kill you the first time, will now find it much easier, since you now have lost
valuable items, and are impaired by a Vitae Penalty (VP). Also aiding someone with a VP of
40% is much more difficult than someone with only 5 - so do conscider the people who are
comming to your aid.
- If it is a dangerous quest, conscider if - that which you lost really needs
recovering. Are there items that can easily be replaced? That may be better than risking
someone elses life in the attempt to recover something that can easily be replaced.
C. Knowledge
- As the "Asheron's Call Official Strategies & Secrets" states:
"Knowledge is power". We should always try to actively work to assist the people
of Dereth.
- One of the founding principles of The Brell Clan is the acquisition and sharing
of knowledge. During the scourges that have been known to raze the land clean, we have
tried to preserve this knowledge for the next generation.
- All members have access to and may readily share general knowledge such as the
locations of cities, surface portals, and general advice about combat and magic. In
addition, as members rise in level, they should gain increasing access to the Clans
store-house of "Sacred knowledge". However, just as one would not give a dagger
to an infant, so do we not share sacred knowledge with the uninitiated.
- "Sacred knowledge" includes magic spells, and the location of special
items and dungeons. "Sacred Knowledge" is the Clans most potent asset and should
not be squandered needlessly.
- General knowledge as well as "Sacred Knowledge" will be posted on our
mailing-list, and via the web.
D. Finding vassels
- Recruiting a new members (vassels) by offering bribes in the form of Pyreals,
Armor, Weapons or other gifts is conscidered pimping, and is conscidered in violation with
the Brell Clan Deed, and can lead to exclusion as determined by the Clan Elders. If a
member is recruited because of a gift, what should prevent him from pledging to another
allegiance if they offer a better weapon?
- Our goal is not to become the biggest allegiance in Dereth, but to be the most
helpfull, honorable and knowledgeble travellers you find in Dereth. Recruiting should
basically be an offer of kinship - not an offer of items or knowledge. The greatest fealty
is earned, not something you buy and pay for with items.
- We have always found that giving free help to someone, expecting nothing in
return, is much better than asking for vassels in a town. Most of the current Clan Members
have been recruited this way - meeting a clan-member somewhere, where they took the time
and made an effort to help. Sometimes they have met on more than one occasion, and in some
cases Members of our Clan have been approached and asked if they would their Patron.
Others have become vassels because they have been asked directly, and that is OK too - but
allways after showing what we stand for, and never demanding or expecting it to happen!
- As a lower level Character, we all have the same basic needs: Some armour, a nice
weapon, a few pyreals, and a nice spot to hunt. But as we rise in levels, we become
increasingly independant of physical help (items and pyreals) and "Sacred
knowledge" (as defined above) becomes more and more important. We will each become
more and more self-sustaining (as we also should) - and for example help in a higher level
dungeon becomes much more important, than anything else. Soon we will all be ready to take
on a vassel, and expand our allegiance.
E: Recruiting new
Members
- Eligable for membership in our clan are all Non-PK (Non Player Killers) citizens
in Dereth preferably level 7 or above. Allthough new members do not need approval of
anyone other than the Patron to whom they pledge their fealty, members are asked to
only recruit members off good report.
- Only turn "Accept Allegiance Requests" on, when you are actually
allowing somone to pledge to you, keep it turned off during normal gameplay. Be carefull
not to allow thieves or less reputable characters to pledge to you.
- When a new member joins our clan, he or she should be given an introductory
letter on a piece of Parchment, containing the words: "Welcome to The Brell Clan. We
trust you will do your best to live up to our motto: 'To aid and protect, thus honor', as
we will do the same for you. Please visit our web-site at: https://brellclan.tripod.com/ to enter your
character information and sign up for our clan mailing-list.
- What kind of information is required from someone that joins us. Allthough we
cannot force anyone to join the mailing-list - we should do our best to encourage
this. And you as the Patron should as a minimum require an email-address from your
new vassel. Secondly the character information of your new vassel must be added to our
allegiance database. Goto: https://brellclan.tripod.com/allegian.htm to
add the information about your new vassel.
F: Player Killers
- Allthough it is not mentionned directly, it should be evident from reading our
Deed, that being a PK (Player Killer) and at the same time being a member in our Clan does
not align with our founding principles.
- We do not condemn anyone for choosing this style of play, as a matter of fact
some of our best friends in Dereth are or have been PK'ers. Thus there is no problem for
us to be in fellowship, hunt with, or share our wealth with PK'ers in Dereth. Remember
there is no greater honor than aiding a fallen in Dereth, be it PK's or Non-PK's alike!
- But because of our bond, we cannot allow PK'ers in our clan. Therefore - if you
want to become a PK (even temporarily), you have to resign from the Clan as long as you
may be a PK.
- Please talk to your patron if you whish to be released from the clan, and make
arrangements for your vassels (even if it be only temporarily) to be switched to your
current Patron (or someone else in the clan), should you choose to try out this style of
play.
- Should you choose PK'ing is not for you... you will be welcomed back into the
clan at anytime, and you patron will attempt to re-establish your old allegiance rank with
your old vassel, if all vassels agree, and level changes will allow it. However, it is not
recommended that you jump in and out of the Clan to be a PK. Instead we encourage you to
start a new character outside the Clan if you want to be a PK on a regular basis!
G: Governing body of
the Clan (The Elders)
- The Brell Clan is in all terms a Monarchy as well etsablished definitions would
descibe it. The Monarch have descided to forfeit his position as sole-ruler, and added a
body of Elders, that (together with the Monarch) function as the governing body of our
clan.
- The Elders are there to handle disputes that cannot be resolved, or in case
disciplinary action may be needed if charges be brought against a fellow Clan Member
prooves to be true and severe enough.
- The Clan Elders are responsible for formulating the Clan Deed & Guidelines,
and will ammend to these as is deemed nescessary.
- The Clan Elders are selected amongst Clan Members who by merrit have proven
themselves mature and over time have shown themselves able and willing to do above and
beyond the call of duty.
- The Clan Elders are currently: Brell (Monarch), Dasgar, Djams al Gefall and
Moira.
This is a current work in
progress and amendments and additions may be made at anytime as deemed necessary by the
Clan Elders.
