First Assault: Chalicmere Castle

Written by Brell October 19th, 2000:

Greetings all,

Having the Frore Quest sucessfully completed (except for a few unfortunate souls, that I am hoping soon will be online at the same time, so we can get them through Frore for their robes and Frore loot as well), I thought it would be time for us to take on a bigger challange.

Bubb'ah and Al-Qadim first proposed this, and lately Canador and I have been discussing it a bit, and we have come up with a three step plan, that will prepare us for an assult at the Incredible Island of Aerlinthe. The Items we can attain from solving this quest are quite remarkable, and allthough only those above level 45 will be able to make a direct attack at Aerlinthe, everyone can get involved (but more on this later)!

The three steps we will complete in preparation for Aerlinthe will be as follows:
  1. Attack on Chalicmere Castle, and securing safe passage to Aerlinthe
  2. Getting our feet wet on Aerlinthe, testing tactics, and seing what we can handle
  3. The final thrust to the dungeons, and subsequent solving of the quest.
The Aerlinthe quest naturaly has been solved before (which will help us a lot), but it is (unlike Frore) unchanged - and we will get the full experience of what it is like.

This mail will address the FIRST step - subsequent postings will address the other two steps. Due to an error on my behalf, the Clan Gathering Invitation did not go out on time, so I have descided to postpone the next Clan Gathering to Saturday 28th. of October, and do this first step "Attack on Chalicmere Castle" this comming Saturday October 21st. at 4pm PST instead.

Attack on Chalicmere Castle, and securing safe passage to Aerlinthe

Chalicmere Castle houses one of the two emmisarys, that can provide Portals to Aerlinthe Island. The reason we choose Chalicmere is that it is the closest and most easy to get to, and it is cheaper, Here we only pay a C-Note to have a portal opened to Aerlinthe, the other Emmisary charges a full D-note. On the Downside, Chalicmere is guarded by a few Diamond Golems, but as you will see, there are ways to circumvent fighting these.

The first step in attacking Chalicmere Castle is naturally finding it, and getting to it. This part is fairly straightforward:
Buy some Sake at the Tavern in Baishi
Go to the Drunken Madman SW of Baishi and give him a cup of Sake
He will summon a portal to a place called "Walled Fortress"
Tie the portal and take the portal, and once through take the portal to you right, that leads to "outside Accursed Hall's"
From there we use the ladders (and a Shift-Jump) to get over the wall, and proceeds to the Lifestone found at 18.1S, 56.9W
From here we can actually see Chalicmere Castle a bit north of the Lifestone
From here on it can either be difficult or easy - depending on how we do it. The hard way is to kill the two Diamond Golems guarding the door to the Castle, and then use a good lockpicker to pick the locks and we all go in. Another option is to jump up to a small ledge (an easy jump if you have 250+ jump), proceed around the corner, and jump to another platform over the door (guarded by the two Diamond Golems). From here we go down the steps and wait inside, while one of us, run out and give the Emmisary the C-Note. He will now look for a good spot to summon his portal, issue a warning to us all, and open the portal that is level 45+ restricted. This portal cannot be summoned nor linked to. We all run through this portal before the lazy Obsidian Golem wakes up. And now we find ourselves on Aerlinthe Island.

For this first Saturday - I suggest that this will conclude what we need to practice and rehearse. Naturally once we are there - and once the debuffs have worn off (Diamond Golems casts some Nasty Debuffs like: Imperril, Bludg Vuln, War and Life Ineptitude, Weakness, Feeblemind, etc... all level VI spells naturally), we will proberbly want to look a bit at the critters around the area where we arrive on Aerlinthe, and this is fine to. But let us agree that we do NOT attempt to push to the dungeons just yet. Rather we will want to take it slowly!

I think I can guarantee that all players level 45+ in our clan will be able to survive this first step without a problem. If you are smart - you will KNOW not to attack anything with Imperril VI on you - so simply stay in the rear, if you are hit with any serious debuffs. Once we are out there - there is nothing (at least to begin with) that a sencible level 45 player cannot handle. Maleous Schreths, Altered and Augmented Drudges, Banderling Maulers (not sure I get the spelling right here), and stuff like this can all be handled if you are carefull, and do not run head into a bunch of them. White Phyntos can be EASILY handled by the mages, and we even have a bunch of Coral Golems we can play with (they are easy to lure one at a time)

What I am trying to say is this: Despite the reputation of Aerlinthe, any player over level 45+ can learn to survive out there (using a bit of common sence). And we are not even trying to get that far on the first day - we just want to teach you all how to get there safely, and perhaps give you a taste of the fauna! :-) I Promise you will love it!

Players of lower level than 45, can also participate. We have Mages in the clan well below level 45, that can provide support in the form of Buffs and Heals to those going through to the Island. And should it happen that someone dies, it will be easy days to recover the corpse (IF you behave with common sense). But comming back at the Lifestone - it is allways nice to be met by a friendly face, ready and willing to give you a buff or cast an Imperril or two on neighbouring critters, to help rid a bit of vitae.

Naturally I am not suggesting that level 15 players venture out in Direlands, but hey - they can aid in getting together a few C-Notes, and can maybee take the time to venture out on a quest more suited to their level of experience.

So lets do this! It is NOT impossible to do, and despite what you heard - quite a few players of levels just above 45 actually participated in the first assult on Aerlinthe (they were not all level 78-90) . So back this up in any way you can. And conscider - that you may not be able to get your hands on the Black Boulder, or the Staff of Aerfalle at this first assult- but just as you have been helped to get Atlan Stones or helped through other quests - then perhaps this is an opportunity to give a little something back :-) And then - when we get reallu good at this - there is no reason why we cannot repeat, and do the whole thing over again! :-)

See ya all out there, Brell
